About me
As an undergrad, Drew matriculated with a double degree in English and journalism, then quickly misapplied that education to become a business analyst, a general contractor, and manager of a Goodyear Tire and Auto Center. Seeking more than just a paycheck, Drew returned to school to earn his teaching license in elementary education and generally trying to ensure students *not* experience school the way he did as a kid. Drew moved to Vermont in 2000 to teach third grade in Winooski - arguably the most colorful, diverse, interesting, and challenging 1.1 square miles in the entire state. In 2010, after earning a Master's Degree in Teaching with Technology, Drew again shifted gears to be the district's Technology Teacher and became an instrumental component of the Partnership for Change - a multi-year Nellie Mae Education Foundation grant created in collaboration with Burlington High School. From that perch, in collaboration with teachers, admin, and the community, Drew shaped the vision for Winooski's first 1-to-1 computing initiative, which quickly gained traction to grow to all grades K-12 within three years. For Drew, work like this must be done *with* students, and not *to* them, and their voices helped shape core documents like the district's Responsible Use Guidelines - written in plain English and accessible to all.
